Dr. Aka-Kacar has received her MSc. (1994) on plant tissue culture and PhD. (2001) degree on molecular characterization at Horticulture Department of Çukurova University in Adana,Turkey. During her PhD period she studied in Michigan State University, Plant and Soil Science Department, USA (TUBITAK-NATO Fellowship), East Malling Research Institute, UK, Bologna University, Horticulture Department Italy, as a visiting scientist. She spent a postdoctoral period with Prof. Mikeal Roose at the University of California Riverside, USA on genetic mapping in Citrus (2004-2005). She received Assoc.Prof title in 2006 and she has a full Prof position since 2013 at Cukurova University.

Her research interests focus on plant biotechnology, molecular breeding, PCR-based molecular markers to plant germplasm, marker assisted selection, genetic mapping and gene expression studies on fruit trees mainly on Citrus.

She is Director of Biotechnology Application and Research Center of Cukurova University since 2015. She is a member of the Editorial Board of the Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry, as well as reviewer for various other international Journals in the field of plant tissue culture and biotechnology.
